New Year Message 2021

Seamus Murphy RIP

It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of club Trustee, former Club President (1977-1980), and long-time supporter and patron of Balbriggan RFC. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this very sad time.
Seamus was a great friend to Balbriggan RFC and to the wider community over many decades. His loss will be greatly felt by many.
One of Seamus’ fondest memories during his time as President, was when Balbriggan won the Anderson Cup for the first time, in 1980. Through the years, Seamus continued to help and guide Balbriggan RFC. When the club bought the lands where we are now based, Seamus helped manage the development of the new grounds. Through his work at Balbriggan RFC, he will be forever remembered in the great facilities that we have today.
Rest In Peace Seamus.

Balbriggan RFC To Receive Funding Under Fingal Leader Programme

We are delighted to confirm that Balbriggan RFC has been approved for significant funding under the Fingal Leader programme. The Leader Programme will provide a total of €28,257.24 towards two upgrade projects in the Club. These projects are an upgrade of the lighting on the front pitch together with an upgrade/replacement of the fence between the front pitch and North County Cricket Club. The Leader programme provides 75% of the total funding towards these two projects with Balbriggan RFC funding the rest of the projects from its own capital.

Balbriggan RFC are very grateful to Fingal County Council and the Leader team for this support which will help to improve the training facilities at Balbriggan RFC whilst also adding to the safety of our grounds. The Club would like to thank Councillor Tony Murphy who worked tirelessly to help Balbriggan RFC secure this funding and Angela Manoli in the Leader team for her help and guidance through the application process. Hopefully our members and the wider community will soon see the benefits of this Leader support through our enhanced facilities.

Fingal CoCo – Emergency Covid Fund

Balbriggan RFC wish to acknowledge and thank Fingal County Council for their support of Balbriggan RFC during the Covid crisis. Balbriggan RFC received funding of €842 which helped with the substantial costs of purchasing and installing sanitising stations at all pitches, including the astro pitches, hi-vis vests for our Covid Compliance Officers, plus the on-going cost of sanitiser for all of these stations, to help with the safe return to sport of our community.

Return to Rugby – Announcement

Balbriggan RFC is pleased to announce that the Club has established a Covid Safety Committee.

The members of the Committee are: Lisa Kelly, Sinead McFarlane, Kevin Sweeney, Therese Tormey and Clive Woods and they will be assisted by Noel Hickey, Caroline McFadden and David McFadden from the Club Executive Committee. The Club are very grateful to these volunteers for coming forward to help get the Club ready for the return to rugby.

The Covid Committee has been working away over the past week or more and will have a Covid Health & Safety Plan ready shortly. A Covid Risk Assessment of the Club’s facilities is also being undertaken. When these two steps are complete, a Return to Rugby Plan will be put into action.

In order for the Return to Rugby Plan to work, we will need more volunteers to come forward as each team in the club will have to have a Covid Compliance Officer.

We will keep you informed of developments. In the meantime, thanks again for your patience and to the volunteers who are helping to get us back on the road to playing rugby.

Two Player Coaches Required By Balbriggan RFC

Two Player Coaches Required by Balbriggan RFC

Balbriggan RFC are advertising for a Backs Player coach AND a Forwards Player coach for their Men’s IXV for the season 2020/21. One or other of the successful candidates will also become Head Coach of Balbriggan RFC Men’s IXV.

About Balbriggan RFC
Balbriggan RFC is an ambitious AND progressive Junior rugby club, located in North County Dublin,
just off the M1 motorway. The Club has a proud history since it was formed in 1925. The club has
some of the best playing pitches anywhere in Leinster and has just completed construction of its
modern clubhouse with state-of-the-art changing facilities.

Balbriggan RFC’s IXV plays in Leinster League Division 2A. The IXV won promotion from Division 2B to
Division 2A in season 2018/19 and more than held its own in Division 2A in its first season in Division
2A. Balbriggan RFC aspires to move up to the next level in Leinster Rugby by gaining promotion to
Leinster League Division 1B.

In addition to its Men’s teams, the club fields a very successful women’s side which currently plays in
Leinster League Division 2. The women’s team finished second in Division 2 in season 2019/20.
Balbriggan RFC has a very vibrant minis section and youths section. The club will field youths teams
at U13, U14, U15, U16 and U17 in the forthcoming season. It also jointly fields girls teams at all ages
with neighbours Ashbourne.

Backs AND Forwards Coaches
The Club has a vacancy for a Backs Player Coach AND a Forwards Player Coach with responsibility for
the Men’s IXV.

The applicants must be available for training on Tuesday and Thursday nights and for games on Sundays. Ideally the applicants should have the appropriate coaching accreditation for a Leinster League team and be looking to further their coaching levels and career.

We look forward to speaking with candidates interested in joining our vibrant and growing team.
