The Balbriggan RFC AGM will reconvene next Monday, 20th October at 8pm in The Bracken Court Hotel.
Great Weekend of Rugby
Balbriggans Womens Team beat De La Salle Palmerston 0 v 39 away, in Kilternan on Sunday. The ladies ran in 7 tries, two of which were converted by Dearbhla Sheridan. Try scorers were Siobhan O’Connor, Anne O’Brien, Sandra McAleer, Ciara Sheridan and Dearbhla Sheridan.
Balbriggans 1st XV beat Ratoath, in Ratoath. Final score was 3 v 54. Captain Ciaran Malone scored a hat-trick of tries, and veteran Des O’Connor, amongst others, also ran in a try.
Weekend Fixtures
Balbriggans Womens team take on De La Salle Palmerston in Kilternan this Sunday, Oct 12th. KO is 12pm. Then, later on Sunday, Balbriggans 1st XV play Ratoath away. KO 3pm.
1st XV take on Midland Warriors
Balbriggans 1st XV put in a thrilling performance in their second round Leinster League match this afternoon, seeing off Midland Warriors 39 v 8. In a performance of sublime running rugby that saw exquisite inter-play between forwards and backs, Balbriggan scored six cracking tries, conceding one try at the death. Captain Ciaran Malone led the way with 2 tries, ably assisted by Stuart Mullen, also with 2 tries, and Dylan Staunton and Sean Malone with 1 try each. Scrum half Kyle Healy kicked 3 conversions and 1 penalty. Next up is a tough match against Ratoath away. Well done Con, Dosser, Leigh, Ciaran and all the lads on a great match.
Womens Team Play First Leinster League Game
Balbriggan Womens Team put in a tremendous performance in their first outing of the Leinster League, drawing 5 v 5, against a very fast and strong Greystones team. The ladies tackled brilliantly, and their passing game was superb. Unfortunately the game had to finish early due to an injury to a Greystones player. The game was played in a great and sporting spirit and the Ladies were cheered on by a great supporting crowd.
Bumper Rugby Day – Sunday 5th Oct
Tomorrow, Sunday 5th Oct, marks the start of the Mini Rugby playing season. U7s are playing in Ashbourne, U8s and 9s are at home, while U10s are playing in Skerries tomorrow morning. Then at 2pm, the Womens Team play Greystones at home, in their first game of the Leinster League. KO 2pm. This is followed by Balbriggans 1st XV second round Leinster League match against Midland Warriors. KO 3pm. Good luck to all.
Balbriggan make Triumphant Return
Balbriggan made a triumphant return to Leinster Rugby with a last-gasp but deserved win away to Arklow. Ciaran Malone, Tommy O’Toole and Sean Malone each scored tries, with Kyle Healy and Danny McGrogan converting one try each. Balbriggans victory was built on a solid scrum, excellent line-out and rolling ball, as well as some beautiful back play. Final score 16 v 19. Next week is our first home match against Midland Warriors. Thanks lads for a great days rugby.
Balbriggan Return to Leinster League
Passing of Club Member
It is with great sadness that we have learned of the passing of Club member Donal Killian of Naul, Co. Dublin. Donal was a great supporter and true friend of Balbriggan Rugby Club over many years and he will be missed by his many friends in the rugby community. Our sympathies to his family and friends. May he rest in peace.
