Balbriggan RFC launched it’s newest rugby team on Sunday, a team for people with special needs and intellectual disabilities. Despite the wet and windy weather, there was a good turnout, with everyone eager to give rugby a go. Thanks to Leigh O’Toole for organising everything. Leigh was ably assisted by Jenna, Aoife, Fiona, Suzi, Ali, Keith, Noah, Georgia and Beth. It was great to have Niall Rynne, President of the Leinster Branch, at the club to help launch our new team.
If you would like further information, please contact Balbriggan RFC’s Director of Rugby, Leigh O’Toole, on 085 842 2094. Once everything is up and running, the section will be divided according to age, with an U18’s team and an over 18’s team. Watch this space for the next training session.
At the same time, the club also hosted the Leinster U11’s Coyle Festival. 24 teams from all over Leinster took part in this festival of rugby and the event was a great success. Thanks to Eamon Darcy for organising the event, and to all those who helped out.
Balbriggan’s Women’s team are through to the semi-final of the Paul Cusack Cup, after beating Trinity 5 v 37. They play Wexford in the semi-final. Balbriggan’s Men’s team beat Athboy 24 v 38 in a double-header played in Athboy on Sunday.
Also on Sunday, Balbriggan’s U16s won the Leinster League Div I Schools/Youth title, beating Seapoint; final score 31 v 12. The game was closer than the score might suggest, but Balbriggan were undoubtedly deserved winners against a good Seapoint side. Thanks to Clontarf Rugby Club for hosting the match, and well done to Victor, Andrew and all the team on their league title.
Balbriggan’s U14s are through to the final of their Leinster League! Final score in their semi-final match was Balbriggan 22 v 22 Greystones. Greystones scored a try at the death to equalise with Balbriggan; but as Balbriggan had scored the first try of the match, they go through to the final.
Well done to all the teams on a great weekend for the club.
