Fundraiser for IRFU Charitable Trust

This season’s North East Santa Blitz at Balbriggan RFC was a huge success. The children got to play some rugby, and were also treated to a visit from Santa and a selection box each. They also got to meet Leinster and Irish rugby players, Garry Ringrose and Joey Carbery.

Each year, the Santa Blitz raises money for a designated charity. This year’s charity was the IRFU Charitable Trust. This week, some of our youngest Balbriggan RFC mini’s along with Mini Co-ordinator Eamon Darcy and North East Chairman Eamonn O’Hare presented a cheque for €500 to former Leinster and Irish rugby player, Mick Quinn, who is a member of the IRFU Charitable Trust Committee.

Presidents Christmas Message

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of our club members and their families as well as the many friends of Balbriggan RFC, wherever you are in the World, a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and prosperous New Year.

We have done a huge amount in 2016 and I thought you might like to take a few moments to reflect on what we in our Club have achieved. We are on the cusp of achieving great things and this is certainly a very exciting time to be involved in Balbriggan RFC. As you know, the first part of 2016 saw the close of the 2015 – 2016 season when we completed our 90th anniversary celebrations. That season was brought to a successful completion with our Club’s Awards Night and Book Launch which was held in the Bracken Court Hotel in May. Although rugby is a Winter sport, we did not take a rest over the summer months. Tag Rugby was played throughout the Summer. The Leinster Summer camp in July this year was one of the biggest held by Leinster Rugby anywhere in the Province this year! Continue reading →

Santa Blitz 2016

The annual North East Leinster Santa Blitz took place on Sunday December 4th at Balbriggan RFC. The event which is now in its sixth year saw almost 400 U7’s, U8’s and U9’s come to Balbriggan to take part in this rugby blitz. Teams from Ardee, Balbriggan, Boyne, Dundalk, Navan, Ratoath, Skerries and Virginia Rugby Clubs took part in this years Santa Blitz which was hugely successful from start to finish. At a blitz such as this, the emphasis is on having fun. The children all played three games, and they got to meet Santa and received a selection box. Coaches were encouraged to join in the fun by dressing up if they wished. Amongst the coaches this year, we had an elf from Balbriggan and two reindeer from Virginia!

Of course the main event of the day was when the children got to meet Santa. This year though, Santa wasn’t alone and had two helpers! We were delighted to have Garry Ringrose and Joey Carbery, come along to meet all the children. This made the children’s day (and their parents!) as they got to meet their rugby heroes. We greatly appreciate the time that the lads gave to all the children at the club on the day.
Thanks to Jacinta O’Rourke, Chairperson of the PR Committee for Domestic Rugby in Leinster and Eamonn O’Hare, Chairperson of the North East Leinster Branch, for joining us on the day. Thanks also to St John’s Ambulance and their volunteers for being on hand at such a big event. The annual blitz also raises funds for a charitable cause. The charitable beneficiary of this years fundraising efforts was the IRFU Charitable Trust. This year we raised just short of €500 for the IRFU Charitable Trust.
Much thanks must go to Eamon Darcy, Balbriggan RFC’s Mini’s Co-Ordinator who organised the event. Finally, thanks to all the helpers at the club who made sure that everything ran smoothly. An event like this simply could not take place without these volunteers.

Your Club, Your Country – IRFU Draw

The IRFU and Ulster Bank are delighted to announce that the ‘Your Club, Your Country’ Grand Prize Draw is back again this season – and this year the prizes are better than ever! Last year the initiative raised over half a million euro for the club game throughout Ireland thanks to club supporters.

Getting involved could not be easier. All of the prizes are kindly provided by the IRFU and their family of partners, with the club retaining 100% of the amount from those sales to support our club activities during the season.

Tickets cost €10 each, and as already said the prizes are fantastic. In addition to the IRFU prizes, Balbriggan RFC are holding a club draw for all those who purchase tickets, with the winner  receiving two RBS 6 Nations tickets.  Continue reading →

These include, all who supported the night by buying horses, local businesses who generously sponsored each race, comedian Eric Lalor who put on a great show and members and friends who attended last night. Particular thanks to the members of the fundraising committee who organised the Race Night and ensured that it ran so well. Attached is a list of winners of each race. Clubhouse Planning Permission

Balbriggan RFC are delighted to announce that Fingal County Council have granted permission for the construction of a Clubhouse at our grounds at Bowhill, Balrothery.

Balbriggan RFC are grateful to Fingal Co Co and to those who assisted us in getting to this stage, particularly Councillor Tony Murphy. We will now move to the next stage in this vital project which will involve tendering for construction of the clubhouse.

Balbriggan RFC looks forward to working with our members, our neighbours and with our wider Community in Balbriggan and Balrothery in developing this state of the art sports facility which will benefit the men, women, youths and children that play rugby at Balbriggan RFC.
