The 2016-2017 season got off to a great start with Balbriggan RFC hosting the Beachy Cup on Sunday September 4th. The competition, which is in its second year included teams from Balbriggan, Ardee, North Meath, Swords, Ratoath and Virginia. Before the games kicked off, a minutes silence was observed in memory of Dave Coughlan (Seapoint), Tim Ross (Midland Warriors), Craig Williams (Balbriggan) and the Hawe family (Cavan). It was an entertaining afternoon of rugby played in a great spirit, in front of a large crowd. Well done to Balbriggan, who won the Cup, and to all those clubs who participated in the blitz. Thanks to the numerous match officials who were on-hand during the day, and to Eamon O’Hare (Area Chairman), Seamie Briscoe and Lorcan Kirk. In a fitting touch the daughters of the late John ‘Beachy’ McCreanor presented the Cup to the winning team Captain. Balbriggan RFC are grateful to the North County Cricket Club, who kindly provided changing facilities, without which, the blitz could not have happened.
